DWI and Other Traffic

Matters

It is illegal in the State of Missouri to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or above. The limit is lower for commercial drivers and drivers under the age of 21.

The Missouri DWI law includes both alcohol and drugs. While DWI specifies .08 BAC in the case of alcohol, it is illegal to drive with any amount of a controlled substance such as marijuana or cocaine present in the driver's blood.

Penalties of a DWI conviction in Missouri can include severe fines and fees, license suspension, required installation of an ignition interlock device (IID) and, in some cases, jail time.

If you are convicted of DWI involving an accident where someone was injured or property was damaged, you may face enhanced penalties. Other circumstances that might lead to increased penalties include prior DWI convictions, high blood alcohol concentration (BAC) or driving with an underage passenger.

Plea bargaining for a lesser charge is a possibility in a Missouri DWI case. Depending on the circumstances, plea bargaining for a "careless and imprudent driving" charge could be an option. Even if a plea bargain is not advised, it is vital to have competent legal representation when facing a DWI charge.

With experience in both DWI defense and prosecution, Bronwyn Werner understands the intricacies of both sides of this complicated legal matter. She can provide the representation you need.
